21 F’s for a Happy Marriage

Assalam..
This article was taken from http://www.muslimdiary.com.. hope all of us will get lots of info from this article..
Enjoy!! =)

21 F’s for a Happy Marriage
Muhammad Ayub
1. Faith:
The most basic and essential attribute of a Muslim marriage is the common faith that binds the couple.
Since Islam is a way of life and not just a religion confined to weekly worship it becomes an integral part of a Muslim's life. The frame of reference shared by the couple eases communication and sharing of values which is not possible in an interfaith marriage. It is highly recommended that faith play an important role in the developing a loving relationship.
For example, as the Prophet Muhammad (SAW- peace and blessings be upon him) said, that even if a husband places a morsel of food in his wife's mouth, he gets a reward for this act and Allah increases the bond of love between them. So when we love each other for the sake of Allah WE ACTUALLY INCREASE OUR FAITH.
2. Forgiving:
When the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) asked his Companions ‘do you wish that Allah should forgive you' they said, of course O Prophet of Allah. He responded, ‘then forgive each other'.
One of the main components of a happy marriage is that the spouses are able to forgive, that they do not hold grudges or act judgmental towards each other. It is expected that when we live with someone, situations may arise when we end up saying or doing things that hurt our spouses. The challenge is not to dwell on it or lay blame but to move past it.  This can only happen if we are not too proud to ask for forgiveness and we are not stingy to forgive.
If we expect Allah to forgive us then we must learn to forgive.
3. Forget:
When we constantly remind our spouses of all the times they let us down or hurt us we have not truly forgiven. Things that happened in the past must be left there and not be used as fresh ammunition in new situations. Couples who use this technique usually fall in a rut and become victims of their own pettiness, unable to break free.
4. Forbearance:
Sabr (patience) is the most useful tool to have in managing a healthy lifestyle. Being patient and forbearing puts us in a pro-active frame of mind it brings us closer to Allah through Tawakul (trust) and reliance .We develop an inner mechanism that empowers us to handle life's difficult moments. As Allah states in Surah (chapter)al-Asr:
"Surely by time humans are at loss, except those who believe and do righteous deeds and counsel each other to the truth and counsel each other to Sabr (patience)' (Quran, chapter 103).
5. Flexible:
Many couples un-necessarily make themselves miserable because they are unwilling to bend a little.
We should not expect our spouses to be our extensions. They are their own selves with personalities, likes and dislikes. We must respect their right to be them selves as long as it does not compromise their Deen (religion). Being inflexible and not accommodating for individual differences leads to a very stressful and tense home atmosphere.
6. Friendship:
This aspect of marriage has three components.
First is to develop a friendship with our spouses. The relationship based on friendship is more able to withstand outside pressures.
We honor, trust, respect, accept and care for our friends, in spite of our differences. These are the aspects of friendship we should bring to our marriages.
Unfortunately the only aspect that people think of bringing to their marriage which is highly inappropriate is the buddy scenario. Shariah (Islamic law) has placed the husband in a leadership role within a family. This requires a certain decorum, which cannot be maintained if the spouses consider each other as pals.
This should not be taken to mean that husband is a dictator but a shepherd who is responsible for and to his flock. This is a position of grave responsibility and places an enormous burden on the husband. Furthermore the children need to see their parents as friends but not as pals as this encourages disrespect.
7. Friendly:
Second aspect of friendship is to have friendly relations with in-laws. When couples compete as to whose parents are more important it becomes a constant source of grief. Much valuable time is wasted trying to convince, one another of whose parents are most desirable.  It is better if we accept, that our spouses will not overnight fall in love with our parents just because we want them to. As long as they maintain friendly relations that are cordial and based on mutual respect we should not force the issue.
8. Friends:
The third aspect of friendship is our circle of friends. It is okay to have individual friends of the same gender but couples must also make effort to have family friends so that they can socialize together. If there is friction being caused by a certain friendship it must not be pursued at the expense of the marriage. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) advised us to choose God fearing people as friends since we tend to follow their way. Friends should be a source of joy and not mischief.
9. Fun:
Couples that do not laugh together have to work on sharing some fun times. The Prophet (SAW) was known to play with his wives. A simple walk in the park can add much spark to the relationship. Taking up a sport together or watching clean funny movies is another way of sharing a laugh.
10. Faithful:
It is commanded by Allah that we be faithful to our spouses. Adultery is a capital crime in Islam that is punishable by death. However there are various forms of unfaithful behavior prevalent among some Muslims.
The most common form is maintaining friendships with the opposite sex over the boundaries set by Islam, and the misgivings of the spouse. The latest trend of Internet relationships is also contrary to Islamic Adab (etiquette) and is causing serious problems between couples. Once a sense of betrayal sets in, repairing that relationship is difficult. Another form of not being faithful is when couples betray confidences (trusts/promises). This is a trust issue and one when compromised eats away at the heart of a marriage.
11. Fair:
Usually when we are angry or displeased the tendency is to not play fair. We try to convince ourselves that since we have been wronged it is okay to be unjust in our behavior and our statements. Allah states in the Quran do not be unjust under any circumstances, even if they be your enemy, and here we are talking about our life partners and the parent of our children. To use words such as "never" and "always" when describing the behavior of the partner is unfair and puts the other on the defensive.
10. Finance:
One of the most common points of contention in marriages is money. Experts tell us that 80 percent of marital conflicts are about money.
It is therefore highly recommended that the couple put serious time and effort in developing a financial management plan that is mutually agreeable and is reviewed every six months or so. Preparing a budget together is also a helpful and wise way to handling household finances. It should be remembered that the wife's money in Islam is hers to do with as she pleases and therefore should not be considered family income unless she chooses to contribute it to the family
11. Family:
Parenting can be a stressful experience if the parents are not well informed. This in turn can put extra pressure on the marriage.
Sometimes couples are naive about the changes that come in the lifestyle. This can cause in some cases depression and in some resentment and misunderstandings. One golden rule that must always be the guide is; that family comes first.
Whenever there is evidence that the family is not happy or not our first priority it is time to assemble at the kitchen table and discuss with open hearts and mind.
12. Feelings:
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) stated that Allah forgives all sins if we repent but not those we have committed against others i.e. hurt their feelings unless the person we have hurt forgives first.
Couples are sometimes very careless when it comes to their spouse's feelings, they take them for granted and assume that the other knows what they mean. It is surprising that people are more sensitive and courteous to strangers than they are to their loved ones. One must be ever vigilant and careful that they do not hurt the feelings of  their spouses and if they invariably do, they should apologize as soon as possible. Since one does not know when someone they love will leave this world, is it not better to make amends when we have the time?
13. Freedom:
Marriage in Islam is a partnership and not bondage or slavery. To consider the wife one's property is alien to Islamic concept of husband and wife role. The team spirit is enhanced and not curtailed when members of the team are free to be themselves. Freedom in the common western since is to be free to do as one pleases or to be selfish. On the contrary, to allow freedom to one's spouse is to be considerate of their needs and to recognize their limitations.
14. Flirtation:
A sure way to keep romance in marriage is to flirt (only) with your spouse. Many successful marriages have maintained a youthful demeanor in their marriages by adopting special names for each other and secret communication styles.
15. Frank:
Misunderstandings happen when couples are not honest with each other. Marital relationship is where the partners must feel safe to speak their mind with due consideration to the other's feeling, without compromising their own views. When the communication is not frank it hinders in the development of closeness and deep understanding of each other's inner self.
16. Facilitator:
When choosing our life partner, we must, as the Prophet (SAW) advised, look for a pious Muslim. The reason is that their first and foremost goal is the pleasure of Allah. This commitment  to Allah makes them an excellent facilitator (someone who makes things easy) for  enhancing their partner's spiritual  development. In essence, the couple facilitates their family's commitment to Allah and His Deen.
17. Flattering:
Paying compliments and indulging in honest flattery is a very inexpensive way to win your spouse's heart. Everyone likes to be appreciated and noticed. So being stingy about compliments is actually depriving oneself of being appreciated in return.
18. Fulfilling:
To be all one can be to one's spouse is a very fulfilling and rewarding experience. To be in love means to give one's all. The heart  does not put conditions or make stipulations. It gives without expecting anything in return, but such selfless giving is always rewarded tenfold.
19. Fallible:
It often happens that our expectations sometimes are so high that we lose focus of the fact that we are fallible (not perfect/make mistakes) beings. When couples start to nitpick and demand the impossible they must remind themselves that only Allah is perfect.
20. Fondness:
So many times couples fail to work on developing fondness for each other by [failing] to see their spouses as people through the eyes of their respective friends. Spending quality time alone doing and sharing activities are ways in which one can develop fondness.
21. Future:
Smart couples plan for their future together. They work on their financial and retirement plans, make wills and discuss these plans with their children. This provides peace of mind and secures the relationship.

9 General Wedding Tips for Muslims ..

Assalam guys.. I got this info from http://www.muslimdiary.com.
Personally, I agree with the tips, it just that some of the tips are not really practical to be practiced here, esp for tips no2 n 3.. it just my personal opinion, its up to u to consider the tips given.. Let's check it out!! (^-^)

9 general wedding tips for muslims ..

There are plenty of things to consider in wedding planning and arrangement. These are a few things which are either unknown or forgotten:

1. Invite the poor

According to one Hadith, the worst meal is the feast of a Walima in which rich people are invited and poor people are left out.

Don't let your Walima be a class-based affair. Make sure that all guests are welcome, regardless of their economic situation.

2. Invite a multiethnic audience

Make your wedding party more representative of the Ummah (the worldwide Muslim community) by inviting Muslims of different ethnic backgrounds, whether it's the local Imam and his family who are Turkish, the African-American Muslima who accepted Islam recently or the Lebanese family in your neighborhood.

In Malaysia, its quite hard to see different Muslim ethnics living in one area. Unless we are living near the international colleges or universities, as well as in the urban which has multiracial n multinational companies, multiethnics Muslims were hardly to be seen in one place. Thus we might only be able to invite those living around our neighborhood n friends from everywhere else, which is mostly Malay Muslims or Chinese, Indians, Sarawakians n Sabahans, Muslims or nonMuslims..

3. Practice gender privacy at your wedding

This means providing women-only space where sisters who observe different levels and types of Hijab feel comfortable.

Most sisters like to dress up for a wedding, but they want to enjoy themselves without being watched by strange men. Also remember that your other guests have nothing to lose with this kind of set up so in the end, providing for women-only space works out for the best for everyone.

There are different ways to accommodate women-only space in a hall.

* You can have separate rooms for men and women. This is the ideal solution for maximum privacy.

* You can have a room in which there is a curtain or a row of tall plants

* In larger halls, you can make two distinct areas

If your family tradition is not to have weddings arranged in this way, consider this: you will Insha Allah (if Allah wills) receive Allah's blessings if you do so for seeking to accommodate your guests and trying to observe an Islamic practice which has been in place for about 1400 years.

In programs where women-only space is provided, children need to be divided up between parents. Older boys should stay with their dads. Older girls stay with mom. Young girls who are toilet trained can also go with dad.

It should also be remembered that professional camerapersons can violate the privacy of individuals by taking photos or videos without their consent. If you are taking photos or videos make sure not to include non-relatives or those who do not want their picture taken.
As long as we do not provide hunky funky party, I think there will be no need to provide different space for men n women. As far as I am concern, when we come to Malay Muslims wedding ceremony, we' ll only come to eat, mingle around with some friends, seeing the bride n grooms, and off we go, leaving the wedding for home. Well, again, its just my opinion.. different people has different thoughts.. =)

4. Set up a hospitality line

This is a line of hosts who will welcome guests when they arrive at the wedding.

Those who will be included in the hospitality line need to be told in advance that they will be part of it. They should not be told once they reach the hall for the wedding.

5. Have the hosts make rounds during dinner

When guests are digging into dinner, hosts should go around, making sure everyone has what they need and inviting those who are finished to take more.

6. Set the stage

It should be decided by the hall committee who will sit on stage at the wedding and exactly where. This has to be done carefully. The feelings of relatives and close family friends are important to consider when making decisions about this.

This will only suitable if your wedding ceremony is held in a hall or hotel. For home wedding, just change it to main canopy. Normally we'll have brides' canopy for makan beradab and for the bride's n groom's close family n relative. Thus, we must pick who will sit in the brided' canopy wisely, so nobody will hurt..

7. Make sure to set up a gift table

Where are you going to put all those goodies? Set up a specific gift table near the stage with a sign saying "Please put gifts here. Thank you."
Hm, looks like you are expecting the guests to bring you gifts. Yes, it will be convenience to the guests, but some may think that you are asking for the gifts and thus the gift table.. ;) Remember, we are well known as humble and soft, sopan santun, lemah lembut, full of East Customs, so its not so nice to purposely set up the table specially for gifts.

8. Mind the bathrooms

Take into account how many guests are coming and see if the washrooms at the hall are big enough. If it's a large gathering, request hall administrators to have a cleaning person come in every half hour or so to clean up quickly in between.

Also, if one of the prayers occurs during the wedding, that means the washrooms will be used for Wudu (ablution before prayer). Ask the hall administrators to accommodate this by providing extra paper towels.

9. Avoid making unnecessary announcements

Avoid making unnecessary announcements of any sort during the program and keep the mike close by so children do not mess around with it.

Till then guys, daaaaa!! =)

~:: 43 Pantang Larang Bakal Pengantin ::~

~:: 43 Pantang Larang Bakal Pengantin ::~
Apabila telah ditetapkan hari perkahwinan bermakna bermulalah pantang
larang buat bakal mempelai itu. Apa yang ditetapkan harus diikuti untuk
kebaikan diri mereka. Ia bukanlah menjaid kewajipan tetapi sudah menjadi
satu budaya dalam masyarakat melayu. Walaupun bakal pengantin zaman sekarang
  32. Jangan buat kerja yang berat. Bila pengantin membuat kerja berat, dia akan
berasa penat dan mudah terjadi nya gangguan emosi.
  33. Jaga pertuturan agar tidak menimbulkan rasa sakit hati.
  34. Elakkan makan dan minum seperti sayur bersifat sejuk seperti kangkung,
bayam, timun, jambu batu dan air kelapa agar muka nampak segar.
  35. Jangan cukur kening ditakuti akan menghilangkan seri muka.
  36. Sebelum menjadi pengantin, katil kelamin tidak boleh ditiduri oleh
    pengantin kerana tidak manis.
  37. Lempar baju di atas bumbung rumah tanpa diketahui oleh orang lain bagi
mengelakkan hujan turun ketika majlis berlangsung.
  38. Dilarang memandang cermin ketika disolek oleh juruandam kerana
    dikhuatiri hilang seri.
  39. Kedua pengantin dilarng bercakap ketika bersanding kerana kurang manis
    dipandang tetamu.
  40. Jangan makan kepala ayam nanti mengantuk masa bersanding.
  41. Dilarang membuang alis kerana perbuatan tersebut akan menghilangkan
    seri wajah buat pengantin lelaki.
  42. Jangan makan bersulam air kerana dikhuatiri menyebabkan perut menjadi
    buncit.
  43. Elakkan keluar rumah tanpa tujuan kerana angan-angan yang tinggi
menjelang perkahwinan dikhuatiri bakal pengantin mengalami kemalangan jika
    berada diluar.

Telur Pindang.......yummy.... (^-^)

Assalam all..
My family is now thinking bout the favors we'll give to guests as door gift.. we just want a simple yet memorable n unique favors. Telur pindang and jelly is among teh favors we could think of for now.. mama had called my auntie in Felda Linggiu, Wak Pah to asked for the telur pindang recipe.. we are planning to make it on our own since its quite pricey if we tend to purchase it.. the lowest price we could find so far is 80 cents per egg.. yet the taste may not as what we expected.. the reason we chose telur pindang is simply because we are johorean which famously known with berkat n telur pindang.. we are not going to give the berkat since we use catering, hence telur pindang.. telur pindang ni selain sedap, memang tahan lama la.. i like sgt2.. tp kat selangor ni payah nak jumpa telur pindang.. kat stesen minyak kdg2 adela jumpa.. tp tak pnah beli pun.. hehe.. kat johor memang selalu ada, especially masa kenduri kawen.. so, to anyone who tend to try to make telur pindang on your own, below are the recipes i found from en google.. check it out yea??

10 helai daun serai
Kulit bawang secukupnya

then, after paying 20% booking fees, we went to Billion Bandar Teknologi Kajang to look for bed sheet.. actually i n mama dah survey dulu bed sheet kat situ 2-3 hari lepas.. ada 80% discount for AKEMI Bianco bed sheet.. tp since ATM kat Billion tu under maintenance, we just can survey je la masa tu.. so since warna yg dicari n berkenan di hati dah ditemui, kami pun p la ke Billion lagi tadi utk membeli bed sheet tersebut, together bolster n pillows.. ;p
At first i'm thinking of taking this design n color for my bed sheet:
It match my reception theme - Red n White (^-^)

or maybe from this design:

or this:

Purple is reception theme at en tunang's side
but then the curtain is in black and silver.. thus i've to pick the color closer to black and silver, or the same.. n finally i got one.. dont have the pic here.. malas nak amik gambar.. nt bila dah pasang i'll try to upload the pic.. (^-^) the bed sheet is too simple for a wedding, but at least i can use it for normal daily use.. worth buying.. i dont want to buy a bed sheet that only can be worn on special occasions.. beli mahal2 pakai jarang2 ek? just not my way.. so, another list is then checked.. daaaa.... =)

deaf for a while..

Assalam..
huhu, water got into my left ear and i'm now deaf for while.. the water had came out but i am still cant hear properly.. i went to the doctor and she said my ear wax was so dry, so when the water got into it, it became like sponge, absorbing the water and jadi kembang.. so it blocks my hearing.. for first three days i just put earwax solution that i had for the same reason last year.. but my ear doesnt get any better.. so i went to the doctor and she gave an earwax solution too, just it is from a different brand and it smells so bad.. huhu.. i had to put it into my ears thrice a day.. huhu.. the doctor ask me to come back after a week to see whether my ear is clean or not.. but i dont think i can wait till a week.. its pain.. huhu.. so worried if i cant hear properly like usual anymore.. hope my ear will back to normal..

Hehe..

Assalam..
syukur alhamdulillah, the shareholders of MAFC Berhad had agreed to give us ex-gratia.. n i didnt expect that i'll get more than half month pay.. n syukur again that i got almost one and a half month pay of ex-gratia in the middle of march.. really grateful.. i can use it for my wedding preps.. (^-^) owh, have i tell u the date of the wedding? its 29th may 2011 at my place and 04th june 2011 at en tunang's place.. hm, for the whole month of february i had to use mama's kancil to go to and from work since my car was accident on 29th january 2011.. it happened on my way back from ioi mall puchong for finance n corporate services division bowling tournament. a ford ranger hit my BLM bonet.. i had to make an emergency brake since the car in front of me did it too.. my car had been warded for almost a month, plus a week after it discharged (the lamp was not being place properly n the door produced a sound when we open it, so we sent it back to the workshop for further repair n inspection).. n now i'm waiting for the insurance claim to be settled..

Chinese New Year 2011..

Assalam..
As usual, we gonna have annual family gathering for my dad's family every Chinese New Year.. so since this year is the fifth year, we gonna have it outside.. meaning here we'll not having it at any of my dad's sibling house.. however, since my aunt will get engaged on the 4th February, we;ll stay at her house first before having our family day at Batu Pahat Wet World.. well, as usual i went back to johor with en tunang.. adik n cqin n en tunang's cousin were with us.. mama, ayh, angah n awie had went back to Johor first since ayah had some work in JB.. so, on Feb 3rd, early in the morning we started our journey to Batu Pahat, n en tunang n cousin to Pontian.. we arrived at my aunt's house around 11.30am.. while my family arrived around 2pm.. we didnt do anything on that day.. just chatting n sleeping.. hehe.. tomorrow my aunt will get engaged and we'll have tahlil and yasin recitation during the nite.. the family day held on Saturday.. after tahlil, we makan2 nasi ambeng and check in to the hotel 40 minutes from the house.. I and angah went back with en tunang n cousin on Sunday. Hm, en tunang return the shoes that is suppose to be put in the gifts during our nikah day.. his mum said tak elok bagi kasut letak kat hantaran.. dont know why but i like!! tambah satu kasut baru.. hehe
